The Government approved, during today’s meeting, a draft aimed at strengthening the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the field of economic diplomacy.
The draft mentions that the MFA will assume central responsibility for promoting economic diplomacy abroad, including through the secondment of diplomats specialized in trade and economic matters to diplomatic missions and consular offices.
The main objective is to develop an economic diplomacy system strategically coordinated by the MFA, which will contribute to a more effective promotion of the Republic of Moldova’s trade and investment interests at the international level.
The new provisions aim to ensure better institutional coherence, more efficient use of human resources, and a reduction in the risk of overlapping competencies between the MFA, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Investment Agency, and other relevant institutions.
At the same time, the coordinating role of the MFA does not exclude the active participation of the Ministry of Economic Development and other institutions in promoting external economic interests and in carrying out trade and investment diplomacy tasks.
