Today, the leaders of the opposition factions in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova sent a joint address to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the President of the Venice Commission, and the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova. The message concerns the governing PAS party’s initiative to amend the legal framework regulating the status and conduct of Members of Parliament, as well as the legislation governing the organization and functioning of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, TRIBUNA reports.
“I believe these initiatives allow for changing the rules without the participation of the opposition, limit the rights of MPs, and contradict the Constitution and European standards.
We call for preventing any weakening of democratic mechanisms and for ensuring genuine dialogue in the process of adopting key decisions”, stated Igor Dodon, leader of the parliamentary faction of the Socialists.
