President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met with Italy’s Minister of Labour and Social Policies Marina Calderone, who is visiting Chișinău. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the social field, as well as on Moldova’s European integration path, TRIBUNA reports.
The President expressed her gratitude for the openness and constant support offered by the authorities in Rome to the Moldovan community living in Italy, as well as for Italy’s firm backing of the Republic of Moldova’s European aspirations. She emphasized the importance of continuing reforms and maintaining close cooperation to advance the accession process.
During the meeting, the President welcomed the implementation of the social security agreement between the two countries and the entry into force of the agreement on the mutual recognition of driving licences, noting that such measures directly contribute to protecting the rights and facilitating the integration of Moldovan citizens in Italy.
President Sandu also expressed interest in launching cooperation to draw on Italy’s experience in active ageing policies, inclusion of persons with disabilities, and reducing informal work, as well as in developing joint support programs for women working in the home‑care sector.
