Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi to Pay a Working Visit to Trieste, Italy

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi will undertake a working visit to Trieste, Italy, on 17 March.

The Moldovan foreign minister will participate in the high‑level conference marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Executive Secretariat of the Central European Initiative (CEI). The event, organized at the initiative of Italy — host country of the CEI Executive Secretariat — and Romania, which will hold the CEI Presidency in 2026, will bring together foreign ministers, as well as representatives of parliaments, chambers of commerce, and think tanks from member states.

During the meeting, Mihai Popșoi will take part in the panel discussion “Promoting the CEI Spirit: Closer in the Region, Stronger in Europe,” alongside the foreign ministers of Romania and Ukraine — Oana Țoiu and Andrii Sybiha — as well as counterparts from Central and South‑Eastern Europe: Marko Djurić (Serbia), Tanja Fajon (Slovenia), Elmedin Konaković (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Gordan Grlić‑Radman (Croatia).

The ministers will discuss priorities for regional cooperation, the role of the Central European Initiative in supporting the European path of candidate states, and ways to promote economic and social development within the broader process of European reunification.

Mihai Popșoi will also hold a bilateral meeting with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani. The agenda will focus on strengthening Moldovan‑Italian dialogue, deepening bilateral cooperation, and Italy’s support for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova.

Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister will participate in the plenary session dedicated to the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). The session will address the advantages and development prospects of the project, as well as its role in enhancing trade and infrastructure connectivity amid current regional dynamics, by expanding logistical routes and facilitating commercial flows.
