The Political Almanac of the Republic of Moldova has reached its 11th edition. The annual publication Political Almanac 2025, produced by the image consulting company POLIEXPERT and the portal TRIBUNA.md, has recently come off the press. This edition is the most extensive so far, comprising 508 pages.
The publication offers a comprehensive overview of the entire year 2025, documenting every political event that took place each day, without commentary or interpretation. Readers can discover what political—and not only political—events occurred daily in the country and can follow the careers of those shaping the evolution of the Republic of Moldova.
The general partner of the 11th edition of the Political Almanac is International Tobacco, which, according to administrator Serghei Omelico, has always viewed its mission in a broader context than business alone and has consistently taken pride in its important socio‑economic role. “The fact that we are among the largest taxpayers in the country is, for us, proof that we are a reliable partner of the state and that, through the taxes we pay, we help our country better address socio‑economic challenges. The fact that we provide jobs with decent salaries and working conditions comparable to those abroad means that we contribute to combating the massive population exodus the country is facing. The fact that we continuously invest in our business and in our partnerships is a direct contribution to economic development. And our philanthropic actions—the support we periodically offer in various fields—reflect our social solidarity.
In the same spirit comes our decision to become the general partner of the Political Almanac—a unique political history publication. Day by day, the Almanac team gathers every fragment of what happens in Moldovan politics and, without giving assessments, simply creates an integrated picture of events. This process has been ongoing for more than 10 years. You can imagine the rich legacy being left to future generations, who will be able to learn, with minimal effort, what happened in our country every day, every month, every year. For us, everything happening now is the present, but for them it will be the past—and they will be able to judge that past as objectively as possible by browsing the pages of the Almanac. This was a key argument in our decision to become partners of this unique and absolutely necessary publication—the Political Almanac,” noted Serghei Omelico in his editorial.
In his editorial, founder Igor Volnițchi described the political year 2025 as “the year of major geopolitical confrontation”: “The entire year 2025 unfolded under the sign of a major geopolitical confrontation, and those who expected a competition of ideas, programs, and solutions to the serious problems facing the Republic of Moldova were left only with expectations. The political situation in the Republic of Moldova in 2025 is easy to explain. On the one hand, geopolitical mechanisms had been operating at full speed in 2024—when the country held presidential elections and a constitutional referendum on introducing the objective of European integration into the Constitution—and the train could no longer be stopped, given the speed with which it entered the new year. On the other hand, the war in Ukraine played a decisive role—as long as it continued, geopolitics in Moldovan politics, especially in elections, was inevitable.”
Founder Lilia Gurez noted in her editorial that the 11th edition marks “the first step into a new decade”: “A year ago, we marked the 10th edition of the Political Almanac—a truly unique publication not only in the Republic of Moldova but also at the regional level. It was a moment of reflection, of deep thought, a moment when we also had to make certain decisions. I will not go into details—what matters is that you are holding the 11th edition in your hands, and we continue the monumental work we committed to years ago.”
Political Almanac 2025 has a print run of 1,000 copies. The publication is not sold; it is distributed to partners, political actors, and state institutions.
The coordinator and editor‑in‑chief of Political Almanac 2025 is Cristina Gurez.
