CEC delegation participates in the annual conference of the Authority for European Political Parties and Political Foundations

A delegation of the Central Electoral Commission, led by Mircea Catîrău, member of the Commission, took part in the annual conference of the Authority for European Political Parties and Political Foundations (APPF), held on 3 March in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium.

The event brought together representatives of institutions responsible for supervising and controlling political finance in several countries. Participants discussed the provisions of the new Regulation (EU, Euratom) 2025/12445, adopted by the European Parliament and the Council on 26 November 2025, which concerns the status and financing of European political parties and European political foundations.

The audience was briefed on the main changes to the regulatory framework, including new rules governing the organisation and financing of European political parties and foundations, as well as mechanisms for administrative cooperation between member states. The conference agenda also included case studies and discussions on the practical application of legislation under the new regulatory conditions.

CEC’s participation in the event provided an opportunity to strengthen institutional dialogue and exchange experience in the field of political finance monitoring.

It is worth recalling that in September 2024, the Central Electoral Commission and the Authority for European Political Parties and Political Foundations signed a Memorandum of Understanding providing for cooperation and the exchange of best practices in the supervision and transparency of political party financing.
