A working meeting was held within the Legal, Appointments and Immunities Committee of Parliament, attended by representatives of the People’s Assembly (APG), the Executive Committee of the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit, and the Central Electoral Commission, to discuss current issues in the autonomous region, TRIBUNA reports.
Following the discussions, participants agreed to maintain a constructive and ongoing institutional dialogue, to take the necessary measures to ensure the legality of electoral processes, and to facilitate the organization of free and fair elections in the region, in full compliance with the legal framework.
The importance of strengthening mechanisms for preventing and combating electoral corruption and the illegal financing of political parties and electoral competitors was also emphasized, with the aim of ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
“Elections must be free and fair, and the right of the people of Gagauzia to choose their representatives must be fully guaranteed in accordance with national and international standards.
It was requested that members of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia (APG), together with members of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), identify the existing problems and develop, as soon as possible, concrete proposals and solutions in this regard,” the Committee announced.
