Mihai Popșoi: During our Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, we will continue to promote unity, resilience, and a stronger Europe

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, took part in the meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Co‑operation in Europe (OSCE), TRIBUNA reports.

During his address, the official presented the priorities of the Republic of Moldova in exercising the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, carried out under the motto “For a Europe of Peace and Resilience.” These priorities reflect the country’s firm commitment to supporting a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, promoting accountability for the crime of aggression, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, and combating disinformation and external interference.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi noted that the objectives assumed under the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe are fully consistent with Moldova’s commitments on the path of European integration.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Council of Europe and the OSCE in order to ensure a coordinated approach to the security challenges faced by participating states and to reinforce democratic resilience.

“Over time, the Council of Europe and the OSCE have built a solid partnership based on democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. This relationship enables a joint and effective response to today’s challenges — from transnational threats to conflict prevention and resolution. The Republic of Moldova remains firmly committed to promoting the values at the core of these international organizations and to supporting the work of both institutions. During our Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, we will continue to promote unity, increased resilience, and a stronger Europe,” Minister Mihai Popșoi stated.

Given the specific nature of the OSCE platform and the organization’s role as mediator in the Transnistrian settlement process, the foreign minister reiterated that the Republic of Moldova firmly advocates for a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict, including ensuring respect for human rights on the left bank of the Nistru. Using this opportunity, Deputy Prime Minister Popșoi reiterated the obligation of the Russian Federation to withdraw its troops and ammunition from the territory of the Republic of Moldova in accordance with its international commitments.
