“The LPA reform proposed by the Government is a new electoral trick prepared by PAS, and it is not based on any official document,” stated Ion Ceban, the Mayor of Chișinău, TRIBUNA reports.

He revealed, for the first time, that around 30 localities in recent years have expressed their desire to become part of the Chișinău municipality, but this was not possible under the current legislation — despite the authorities’ repeated claims about voluntary amalgamation.

“According to the information we have, preparations are underway to close around 600 mayoralties and reorganize the country into approximately 10 districts.

This is a strictly political reform. If they move forward with mandatory amalgamation, we risk the disappearance of hundreds of mayoralties, according to their preferences and convenience.

These actions have nothing to do with people’s well‑being or financial efficiency, and in this context, we will also inform international authorities”, Ion Ceban emphasized.
