Igor Dodon, the leader of the Socialists, made several statements regarding what he calls “political cases initiated by the PAS government.” The politician said that “the case currently pending before the Supreme Court has been examined since 2022, with several judicial panels already reviewing it”, TRIBUNA reports.
“The case was reopened, and during the first hearings I was present at all sessions. I have the court’s permission to appear only when it is procedurally mandatory. All the restrictions imposed on me were respected and later lifted. I said from the very beginning, and I repeat now: I am not leaving the country. Nothing has changed, even if some would very much like it to.”
“Perhaps for this reason — or who knows for what other reason — they have begun artificially inflating public interest in this case. All the court’s lackeys have jumped in. They keep showing the same footage and making all sorts of assumptions, including about selling property. I have never had such intentions. Moreover, you can verify with state authorities that all the assets of my family and close relatives have been under seizure for four years,” he explained.
The Socialist leader also referred to Vlad Plahotniuc’s statements: “It is obvious that the so‑called witnesses cannot know what actually happened in 2019 — whether it was a staged provocation, a political game, or something else. They are simply trying to fill an empty case with falsehoods. This includes the so‑called bombshell statements of former Democrats, who were previously accused by PAS of state capture and were never held accountable for it. Those who attack me today ignore the fact that all this happened when power was concentrated in the hands of the Democratic Party, while many of those who are loud today were hiding in the bushes, whereas the Socialists acted courageously.”
“And if they believe that constantly bringing this topic back into the spotlight and creating a permanent media intrigue around the Dodon case will distract people from their huge bills, from the government’s intention to raise taxes — including on real estate — or from the paranoid desire of those in power to control even lawyers, then I tell you plainly: you are wasting your efforts.”
The MP stressed that the PSRM will continue to highlight real social and economic problems, “because these are the issues that truly affect people’s lives in this country.”
“And one last thing… How was it even possible to send this case to court without Plahotniuc as a witness? Does this mean it was sent without evidence? And now they are panicking because they cannot prove anything?”
“We cannot deny that PAS is better at staging free shows than at caring for people. A circus without bread,” Igor Dodon concluded.
