Igor Dodon to Iwona Piórko: “We support dialogue with Brussels, we support good relations with the EU, but based on national interests”

Igor Dodon, President of the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova and head of the Socialist parliamentary faction, held a meeting with Her Excellency Iwona Piórko, the Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, TRIBUNA reports.

During the discussions, the officials addressed a range of current topics, including the political and socio‑economic situation in the country, the daily challenges faced by citizens, and cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union.

Igor Dodon informed the Ambassador about his recent participation in the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The Socialist leader highlighted that the dialogue held in Strasbourg with European officials confirmed the need for close monitoring of political developments in Moldova, as well as the importance of maintaining constant and transparent dialogue between external partners and the opposition — an essential element for preserving genuine democratic balance and preventing government abuses.

The PSRM leader reiterated the strategic position of the party he heads: “We support dialogue with Brussels, we support good relations with the EU and with all of Moldova’s partners, but based on the national interests of the Republic of Moldova.”
