PACE President Petra Bayr reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close cooperation with the Republic of Moldova

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with the new President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Petra Bayr, TRIBUNA reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi congratulated Petra Bayr on her election to this important position and wished her success in her new mandate.

The discussions focused on recent developments within the organization and on cooperation prospects in the context of the Republic of Moldova’s upcoming Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, which will take place between 14 November 2025 and 16 May 2026.

Minister Mihai Popșoi highlighted the importance of the strong and long‑standing partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe, emphasizing the essential role of the assistance provided over the past 30 years, including support for the EU accession process.

For her part, PACE President Petra Bayr reaffirmed the importance of maintaining close cooperation with the Republic of Moldova, including through the Parliamentary Assembly, and expressed her support for the successful fulfilment of Moldova’s mandate as Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

Petra Bayr was elected President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 26 January. The mandate is for one year, with the possibility of a single renewal.
