Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE), Alain Berset.
Minister Mihai Popșoi reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova’s firm commitment to deepening cooperation with the Council of Europe and to consistently promoting the organization’s core values — democracy, the rule of law, and respect for human rights.
A key topic of the meeting was Moldova’s upcoming Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. In this context, the importance of this mandate was highlighted, along with the organization of the Ministerial Session of the Committee of Ministers, which will take place in Chișinău.
“ The Council of Europe remains an essential partner for the Republic of Moldova in strengthening the rule of law and democratic institutions. By assuming the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, the Republic of Moldova contributes to shaping the Council of Europe’s priorities and reaffirms its commitment to the organization’s fundamental values,” stated Minister Mihai Popșoi.
Secretary General Alain Berset reiterated the Council of Europe’s strong support for the Republic of Moldova and praised the steady cooperation with the authorities in Chișinău, in a regional context marked by multiple challenges.
The meeting took place in Strasbourg, where Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, in his capacity as Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the CoE, will deliver an address before the PACE plenary at 16:40.
