The organization of the elections for deputies to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, scheduled for 22 March 2026, is currently impossible. The announcement was made by the Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia, TRIBUNA reports.
The reason is the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, which upheld the appeal submitted by the Territorial Office of the State Chancellery in Comrat and suspended the implementation of People’s Assembly Decisions No. 501 and No. 502 of 16 December 2025, concerning the formation of the composition of Gagauzia’s electoral body.
The suspension of these acts remains in force until the case is examined on its merits. In the absence of a legitimate and functional electoral body, the electoral process cannot take place.
