Four New Ambassadors of the Republic of Moldova. Former MP Petru Frunze Heads to China

The Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee has approved the consultative opinions for the candidates proposed to serve as the new ambassadors of the Republic of Moldova to Romania, Ukraine, the French Republic, and the People’s Republic of China. Thus, Mihai Mîțu is set to be appointed ambassador to Romania, Victor Chirilă to Ukraine, Lorina Bălteanu to France, and Petru Frunze to China, TRIBUNA reports.

Mihai Mîțu holds degrees in law and diplomacy and has served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2022. He has over 15 years of experience within the MFA, including postings at Moldova’s embassies in Sweden, the United States, and Romania, where he worked as counsellor between 2019 and 2021.

Victor Chirilă holds a degree in history and a master’s in European policies. Since 2021, he has served as Moldova’s ambassador to Romania. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996, holding various positions, including counsellor at the Moldovan Embassy in the United States. In 2009–2016 and 2020–2021, he served as Executive Director of the Foreign Policy Association of Moldova.

Lorina Bălteanu is a Moldovan poet. She previously led two literary magazines and a media trust. In 1998, she graduated from the University of Dijon, France, and two years later settled in Paris, where she launched a career in interior design and created her own jewellery brand.

Petru Frunze studied law and has experience in local public administration. Between 2011 and 2019, he served as mayor of Puhoi, Ialoveni district. He was later elected to the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova for two terms: 2019–2021 and 2021–2025.

According to the Law on the Diplomatic Service, proposals for ambassadorial appointments are submitted to the Government by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, following consultations with the Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee. Ambassadors are then appointed by the President of the Republic of Moldova.
