Ion Ceban: The PAS Government Ignores External Warnings and Pushes Moldova Toward Isolation

Ion Ceban, President of the National Alternative Movement (MAN), states that the current government is treating with indifference the signals coming from international partners, a situation that risks isolating the country internationally and worsening internal problems.

According to Ion Ceban, in recent months the Republic of Moldova has received clear and repeated warnings from international institutions, yet the government has shown almost no reaction. “This attitude only worsens the internal situation and affects partners. The government relations with strategic pretends not to understand these signals, and this may aggravate both the internal situation and relations with external partners,” Ceban declared.

He pointed to the tense relationship with the International Monetary Fund, claiming that the Republic of Moldova lost billions of lei due to the government’s failure to meet its commitments. Ceban also referred to blockages in the European integration process, the avoidance of public explanations, and the disregard of the Venice Commission’s observations regarding the reform of the prosecution system.

“▪️The withdrawal of the IMF Mission, as a result of which the Republic of Moldova lost access to more than 3 billion lei.
▪️ The failure to officially open accession negotiations between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union.
▪️ The authorities’ unserious treatment of the position recently expressed by the Venice Commission, which criticized the project to create a new structure — the Anti‑Corruption and Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office,” the MAN leader stated.

The MAN President also invoked the Amnesty International report on the media situation, as well as the conclusions of international election observation missions, which highlighted irregularities and issued clear recommendations.

“Instead of addressing the problems identified, the government chose to downplay the document’s conclusions. We have seen more attempts to discredit the report than a desire to solve the real issues,” Ceban said.

Ion Ceban called on the PAS government to urgently revise its approach toward external partners and act in accordance with the recommendations received. “Only in this way can a real interest in the rule of law be demonstrated, rather than an interest in consolidating unchecked power,” the MAN leader concluded.
