European Union – message for the Republic of Moldova: “The next steps in the accession process must follow without delay”

The Danish Presidency of the EU Council has published the conclusions following the meeting of the General Affairs Council. The European Union sends a clear message to the Republic of Moldova: Moldova is advancing, appreciated, and supported, and the next steps in the accession process must follow without delay, TRIBUNA reports.

Main messages:

  • The EU appreciates that Moldova continues the path of reforms even under very difficult conditions – war in the region, hybrid attacks, and the energy crisis.
  • Moldova has swiftly and successfully completed the legislative screening. The European Commission confirms that all 6 clusters of chapters are ready to be opened.
  • The EU recognizes the democratic mandate of Moldovan citizens for European integration and the state’s efforts to organize fair elections despite disinformation and external interference. The EU will continue to support Moldova in combating these threats.
  • Strengthening the rule of law remains a key priority. The EU encourages the continuation of justice reform, completion of the evaluation of judges and prosecutors, strengthening judicial independence, and achieving clear results in fighting corruption, including at high levels.
  • Anti-corruption efforts are appreciated, including tackling illegal financing, money laundering, and using modern technologies to protect electoral processes.
  • The EU acknowledges Moldova’s progress in reducing dependencies and supports the development of energy connections for greater security and stability in the region.
  • The EU notes important steps toward a functional market economy and supports economic reforms through the Growth Plan for Moldova, already under implementation.
  • Gradual integration into the EU’s internal market is already bringing real benefits: simpler and cheaper SEPA payments, lower telephony tariffs through “Roaming like at home,” and more opportunities for the economy.
  • The EU firmly supports Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and calls on Russia to withdraw its illegally stationed troops from Transnistria. The EU remains committed to a peaceful solution to the conflict.
  • Moldova is a trusted partner in foreign and security policy. The EU values Moldova’s high level of alignment with European positions and its participation in EU security missions.

“Moldova is moving forward on the European path – with responsibility, reforms, and the support of our partners in the European Union,” said Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov.
