President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, held a meeting with a delegation of the European Parliament, with discussions focused on the country’s European path and the support of EU institutions for advancing the accession process, TRIBUNA reports.
The President welcomed the strong backing of the European legislature, an institution where the Republic of Moldova has many friends and supporters of its European aspirations.
The European Parliament regularly adopts resolutions in support of Moldova and has accelerated the promotion of the Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova—a support package worth €1.9 billion for the Moldovan economy. In addition, the institution recently opened a liaison office in Chișinău, designed to assist in aligning national legislation with the EU acquis and to strengthen dialogue between the two legislative bodies.
The interlocutors also welcomed the establishment of the Committee for European Affairs in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
Beyond the European agenda, the talks addressed the regional security situation and the international community’s efforts to restore peace on the continent. Both President Maia Sandu and the Members of the European Parliament reiterated their firm support for Ukraine and for the resilience of the entire region.
