Maia Sandu awarded Ambassador Yoichiro Yamada the distinction “Order of Honour”

President Maia Sandu of the Republic of Moldova met today with Japan’s Ambassador to Moldova, Yoichiro Yamada, on the occasion of the conclusion of his mandate in our country. At the end of the meeting, Maia Sandu awarded Ambassador Yoichiro Yamada the distinction “Order of Honour”, as a recognition of his contribution to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Japan, TRIBUNA reports.

The Head of State highly appreciated the support provided to Moldova by Japan in recent years, reflected in major development projects. Over the past five years, the Government of Japan has offered Moldova bilateral non-reimbursable financial assistance and loans amounting to more than 140 million US dollars, contributing to the advancement of the agricultural sector, the strengthening of the medical system, and the improvement of the educational environment for children and youth.

Thus, 14 medical institutions across the country have been equipped with advanced equipment essential for delivering quality medical services. Among them are the Clinical Hospital of Traumatology and Orthopedics, the Municipal Clinical Hospital “Gheorghe Paladi,” the Republican Medical Diagnostic Center in Chișinău, as well as health centers in Edineț, Leova, Căușeni, and other localities.

Additionally, more than 20 million US dollars were directed towards modernizing agricultural machinery and equipment, helping increase the competitiveness of this sector. Farmers also benefited from financial support to mitigate the consequences of the drought in the summer of 2022.

In the field of education and social assistance, the Government of Japan supported projects that improve access to modern resources and safe learning conditions. These include the establishment of a digital library at Moldova State University and the renovation of 12 kindergartens and schools in Sireți, Comrat, Orhei, Rîșcani, and other localities.

The Head of State emphasized that the Republic of Moldova is firmly committed to further deepening cooperation with Japan, expanding bilateral development projects, and identifying new joint initiatives for the benefit of both countries.
