Igor Grosu at the Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea International Platform: “The fight for democracy is waged on the battlefield, in every polling station”

The fight for democracy is waged on the battlefield, in every polling station, in every parliament, and in every home that refuses to give in to fear. This statement was made by the Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu, during the fourth edition of the Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea International Platform, TRIBUNA reports.

In his speech, Igor Grosu emphasized the mission of the Crimea Platform to keep international attention focused on this issue not only as a Ukrainian matter but as a test for the entire international order. In this context, the head of the legislature noted that the Republic of Moldova is actively involved in the parliamentary dimension of this Platform.

He also pointed out that citizens of the Republic of Moldova know what it means to have the Russian Federation’s army on their territory. “We share a border with a country under attack, we feel the consequences of the war every day through energy insecurity, economic pressures, and the humanitarian needs of those who fled the bombs,” explained Igor Grosu.

In this regard, the Speaker reiterated the support that our country provides to Ukraine — through refuge, assistance, and political backing. He also stressed the importance of global solidarity and transatlantic unity: “Let us continue to work in our parliaments and through our partnerships to ensure that the day will come when Crimea is free, all occupied territories are liberated, and the Ukrainian people can rebuild their country in peace and dignity.”

The fourth edition of the Parliamentary Summit of the Crimea International Platform is hosted by the Swedish Riksdag. The event brings together speakers of national parliaments and interparliamentary organizations.

The Crimea Platform was launched at the governmental level in Kyiv in 2021 at the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. It is an international forum for consultation and coordination, held at different levels: between governments, foreign ministers, parliaments and interparliamentary assemblies, as well as civil society and expert communities. Its goal is to end the occupation of Crimea and return it peacefully to Ukraine.
