PLDM: We demand the urgent publication of the principles, premises, and objectives of the reintegration strategy discussed by the Government with the EU and the US

The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) reaffirms its firm and consistent commitment to territorial reintegration and the strengthening of the unitary state of the Republic of Moldova, but strongly condemns the non-transparent manner in which the current government is handling one of the most sensitive and strategic issues of the state — the reintegration of the Transnistrian region, reports TRIBUNA.

“We welcome the support of our Western partners — the European Union, the United States of America, and other international actors — who remain engaged in identifying a sustainable solution to the Transnistrian conflict and in strengthening security at Europe’s eastern border.

At the same time, we strongly condemn the non-transparent way in which the current government is addressing one of the most sensitive and strategic issues of the state — the reintegration of the Transnistrian region. In recent days, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and PAS representatives have announced ‘advanced’ discussions with the EU and the US on reintegration, without the public, Parliament, civil society, or independent experts knowing the content, principles, risks, or commitments involved in this plan.

Such a process cannot be turned into a PR tool for electoral gain. The reintegration of Transnistria is not a party issue, but a matter of national security — and national security cannot be negotiated behind closed doors,” the party’s statement reads.

PLDM outlines the following positions and demands:

  1. We demand the urgent publication of the principles, premises, and objectives of the reintegration strategy discussed by the Government with the EU and the US.
    Citizens of the Republic of Moldova have the right to know what is being negotiated in their name and what consequences it entails for the Moldovan state.
  2. We demand the immediate convening of Parliament for a public hearing with Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, and the Intelligence and Security Service.
  3. PLDM categorically rejects any attempt to federalize the Republic of Moldova, whether explicit or disguised under “intermediate,” “temporary,” or “pragmatic” formulas.
    The reintegration of the Transnistrian region cannot be achieved at the expense of the constitutional order, sovereignty, and unitary character of the state.

PLDM emphasizes that “the current regional context — the European integration process and the need to strengthen security at Ukraine’s western border — creates a favorable framework for effective negotiations. But no geopolitical urgency justifies hasty, superficial, or hidden decisions. We do not accept a quick, electoral solution that, in three years, could paralyze the functionality of the state.”

“We have a duty to warn: the Transnistrian region remains under the control of the Russian Federation’s special services, and the sudden and unexamined integration of parallel structures from the region into the institutional architecture of the Republic of Moldova risks generating deep functional crises, undermining the state’s capacity to govern.
Reintegration must be the result of a democratized, transparent, and responsible process that takes into account:
• the national interest of the Republic of Moldova;
• the views of independent experts, civil society, and affected communities;
• clear security guarantees and institutional protection mechanisms,” the party concludes.
