Maia Sandu to Roberta Metsola: Thank you for your political support, for the resolutions through which you have supported our democracy and EU accession process!

President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, during a joint press conference in Chișinău, thanked the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, “for the political support, for the resolutions through which you have supported our democracy and the process of joining the European Union,” TRIBUNA reports.

“I thank you for the financial support: for the accelerated approval of the Growth Plan for Moldova, which means economic development, better infrastructure, hospitals, and schools. It means greater safety for our people,” emphasized the head of state.

Maia Sandu noted that Moldova is undergoing modernization.

“We are strengthening our institutions. We are building roads, bridges, and power lines that connect us to the European Union and make us stronger. We are integrating our economy into the European market. And we are preparing the country for accession.

The Enlargement Report published this week confirms that Moldova has made the most progress among all candidate countries. It’s true — we started later than others, but we are catching up quickly.

We are working seriously, aligning our legislation with European law, and step by step approaching EU standards. European institutions see and appreciate the pace of our work,” the President stated.

She added that there is still much to do, but Moldova has strong support.

“The opening of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Chișinău will help us align national legislation with European law. We’re talking about approximately 3,000 EU acts to be transposed through over 1,000 national acts. It’s a tremendous effort, and the support of the European Parliament will make this process clearer, more efficient, and well-coordinated. We are grateful for this consistent partnership,” Maia Sandu said.

In conclusion, the President declared: “We will continue working with ambition and seriousness — and we trust that the pace will remain determined on both sides. We continue to count on your support and that of the European Parliament in this considerable effort for us, but vital for the freedom and well-being of Moldovans.”
