The European Parliament Office in the Republic of Moldova officially launches its activity

The European Parliament Office in the Republic of Moldova officially launches its activity. The announcement was made by the President of the EU legislature, Roberta Metsola, during her speech in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. Metsola handed over the Agreement to the Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu, describing it as a historic treaty that elevates the partnership between Moldova and the European Union, TRIBUNA reports.

“The official inauguration of this Office is a clear signal of our commitment to the Eastern Partnership countries and Moldova’s journey toward the European Union. This Office will be here, on the ground, every day—standing by your side, supporting and assisting you in all your efforts,” emphasized Roberta Metsola.

“This is a deeply emotional and politically significant event for us, coming just days after the Evaluation Report was presented, in which Moldova received very positive assessments. It is, in fact, a recognition of the work we have all done, and we must maintain the same pace to open negotiations and continue our European path. The European Parliament Office in Chișinău will ensure our ongoing interaction with the European Parliament and participation in all events and processes,” stated Igor Grosu.

Through its activity, the European Parliament Office in Moldova will support democracy and institutional reforms in the region. It will also assist in preparing and coordinating official visits by MEPs, strengthening cooperation with other EU actors on the ground, international organizations, and civil society.

The decision to open an Eastern Partnership office in Moldova was made by the European Parliament in March this year. Currently, the European Parliament operates three antenna offices: in New York (for UN relations), Jakarta (for ASEAN), and Addis Ababa (for the African Union).

The decision to open two additional offices—in Moldova and Albania—follows a previous resolution to establish offices in Kyiv, Ukraine, and Panama, for relations with Latin America and the Caribbean.

Additionally, the European Parliament maintains liaison offices in all EU capitals, regional offices in the five most populous member states, and two offices outside the EU (in London and Washington).
