Parliament took note of the resignation of several MPs

Parliament took note of the resignation of several MPs.

Five Members of Parliament have given up their mandates after becoming members of the Cabinet of Ministers led by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

Thus, Vladimir Bolea will continue serving as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, while Mihail Popșoi will hold the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dan Perciun will serve as Minister of Education and Research, and Ludmila Catlabuga as Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. Emil Ceban has also resigned from Parliament following his appointment as Minister of Health.

At the same time, Dorin Recean and Artur Mija submitted their resignations after previously announcing their withdrawal from politics. Nicolae Popescu resigned after being appointed Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Moldova for European Affairs and Strategic Partnerships.

All MPs requested that their resignations take effect on November 1, 2025. According to the Law on the Status of a Member of Parliament, the vacant mandates will be assigned to the next substitute candidates on the list of the electoral competitor “Party of Action and Solidarity.” These are Igor Talmazan, Angela Munteanu-Pojoga, Veronica Cupcea, Veronica Briceag, Liliana Grosu, Alexandr Trubca, Gheorghe Ichim, and Valeriu Carțîn.

Under current legislation, a parliamentary mandate is incompatible with the positions of President of the Republic of Moldova, member of the Government, People’s Advocate (Ombudsman) or Ombudsman for Children’s Rights, as well as with any local elected office. It is also incompatible with any other paid position, including those offered by a foreign state or international organization, except for teaching or research activities conducted outside the working hours established by the Parliament’s Rules of Procedure. In such cases, an MP has 30 days to resign from the incompatible position.
