Dorin Recean Steps Away from Political and Public Life

Acting Prime Minister Dorin Recean is stepping down from political and public life. Although he was offered a new mandate, he has declined the position of Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, according to TRIBUNA.

During a joint press conference with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, it was announced that the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) proposed Recean for a renewed term as Prime Minister, but he declined.

“Together with President Sandu, with the MPs and members of the Party of Action and Solidarity, with whom we initiated essential reforms for our country, and together with society at large—alongside whom we came incredibly close to our goal of EU accession—we have fulfilled our duty. I thank PAS for their trust and for the mandate to lead the Government of the Republic of Moldova during this challenging period. I worked with professional, dignified, and courageous people in PAS—people who, ten years ago, began a fight for democracy and real independence, a fight without which we wouldn’t be where we are today,” said Recean.

He added that he is returning to the private sector and leaving political life.

“I’m honored by PAS’s trust and their intention to offer me another mandate as Prime Minister. However, my decision—a personal one—is different. I entered politics two and a half years ago with a very clear mandate: to ensure security and constitutional order. I never intended to remain in politics. My mandate ends here, as our country enters a new phase. I hope what we’ve achieved together will position Moldova among the strong nations of the world. And for that, the next government mandate must focus on economic growth.

I will no longer be involved in political life. I will resign my parliamentary mandate after we vote on the new government, of course, and I will resume my professional path, which I set aside a few years ago. That said, I will never hesitate to help if I can,” he concluded.
