The Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) is following with concern and interest the ongoing discussions at the European Union level regarding the adoption of the LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy for 2026–2030. According to the party, “this initiative, although presented as a human rights effort, raises serious questions in relation to both Christian moral principles and the constitutional foundations of the Republic of Moldova,” TRIBUNA reports.
PLDM warns that the 2024 constitutional amendment—granting primacy to European legislation over national law—creates a dangerous precedent for the Christian moral fabric of Moldovan society. The unconditional acceptance of directives that relativize fundamental concepts such as family, gender, or education risks undermining Moldova’s cultural and spiritual identity.
“European integration must not mean abandoning faith, moral values, or the traditions that define us,” the party states.
PLDM emphasizes:
“God created man as male and female, and this natural order of creation cannot be altered by political vote or administrative decision. Any attempt to turn concepts like ‘gender fluidity’ or ‘biological self-determination’ into mandatory norms for EU member and candidate states constitutes an arbitrary intervention in divine creation and a distortion of humanity’s fundamental principles.”
While reaffirming its respect for human dignity and condemning all forms of violence, hatred, or discrimination, PLDM rejects the transformation of an ideological agenda into a mandatory moral standard.
“Equality must not be confused with uniformity, and freedom must not become a tool of pressure against national and religious conscience. The European Union is a community of cultural and spiritual diversity, not a laboratory of social engineering.”
The party reiterates its commitment to the natural family, founded on the union between a man and a woman, as the spiritual cornerstone of society. It defends every child’s right to be raised by a mother and a father and to receive moral education aligned with the faith and values of the Moldovan people. The introduction of gender concepts into the educational system without parental consent, PLDM argues, constitutes a violation of freedom of conscience and an unacceptable intrusion into family life.
“A child is not an object of ideological experimentation.”
In this context, PLDM calls on the PAS government to publicly clarify Moldova’s position on the EU LGBTIQ+ Equality Strategy 2026–2030 and to what extent it will be accepted by the authorities in Chișinău, especially following the constitutional amendment adopted alongside the presidential elections.
“Given that this topic is expected to be discussed and negotiated within the first cluster of the EU accession process, as stated by European officials, the government’s stance becomes essential in defining our moral and identity direction. Moldova aspires to European integration, but must preserve its moral sovereignty and the right to decide on the fundamental values that define its society.”
PLDM concludes:
“European integration must be a union of freedom and dignity, not of ideological conformity. European civilization was born in the shadow of Christianity, not in cultural engineering laboratories. Moldova must defend its Christian roots as part of its European identity.
We condemn any attempt to impose a reinterpretation of divine creation through political means and warn that the uncritical adoption of EU directives contrary to moral order risks creating a rupture between state and citizen, between freedom and conscience. PLDM defends faith, family, childhood, and the freedom of the soul as pillars of a living and moral Europe. Moldova will be saved not by denying God, but by returning to faith.”
