MEP Victor Negrescu announced yesterday that, with the support of 55 fellow Members of the European Parliament from 19 European countries representing the main democratic political families, he initiated a joint letter addressed to the President of the European Council, António Costa, urging the immediate opening of chapter-based accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova, reports TRIBUNA.
He stated: “This is a strong political signal: the European Parliament fully supports the European future of the Republic of Moldova, acknowledges the reforms achieved, and calls for the will of Moldovan citizens—expressed through the outcome of the parliamentary elections—to be respected and acted upon.”
“This initiative is backed by key leaders of the European Parliament and demonstrates Europe’s unity and solidarity with the Republic of Moldova at a decisive moment for the entire region. The appeal makes no mention of decoupling, focusing instead on the support that must be given to Moldova’s reform efforts,” Victor Negrescu added.
