Maia Sandu at the EPC Summit: “I came with a strong mandate from our citizens to advance the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union”

President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, took part in the European Political Community (EPC) Summit held in Copenhagen, Kingdom of Denmark, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, TRIBUNA reports.

“I came to the European Political Community Summit with a strong mandate from our citizens to advance Moldova’s accession to the European Union,” stated President Maia Sandu.

The event, hosted by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, brought together 53 European leaders — heads of state and government, alongside representatives of EU institutions. In her opening remarks, President Sandu emphasized the clear support expressed by Moldovan citizens during the parliamentary elections on September 28 for European integration. She also shared Moldova’s experience in countering external interference in democratic processes.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Sandu convened a meeting with several of Moldova’s partners, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Romanian President Nicușor Dan, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, and EU institutional leaders: European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas. The European leaders reaffirmed their strong support for Moldova’s European path and its economic development.

“Our partners value the determination with which Moldovans have defended democracy and resisted interference. We will continue working together to ensure Moldova becomes part of the European Union, securing the country’s development, peace, and security,” President Sandu stated following the meeting.

In Copenhagen, the Head of State also held bilateral talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda. She met with Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin. Discussions focused on Moldova’s EU accession, economic development, and strengthening peace and security across the continent.

President Sandu also met with the host of the event, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, to discuss Moldova’s EU accession process. Additionally, she held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the European path, regional security, and the restoration of lasting peace in Ukraine. Economic cooperation was at the center of discussions with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

The European Political Community (EPC) was established at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, with the aim of promoting political dialogue, strengthening cooperation, and consolidating security, stability, and prosperity across the continent. The next EPC summit will be held in Armenia in the spring of 2026.
