President Maia Sandu met in Strasbourg with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe. The meeting took place in the context of preparations for Moldova’s upcoming Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, scheduled for November 2025 to May 2026, according to TRIBUNA.
The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation through the Moldova–Council of Europe Action Plan and adopting new measures to safeguard democracy and enhance resilience against external interference.
The Head of State highlighted the Council of Europe’s contribution—particularly that of the Parliamentary Assembly, the Venice Commission, and the European Court of Human Rights—to Moldova’s democratic development and the consolidation of the rule of law. President Maia Sandu reaffirmed her commitment to continuing reforms, especially in the justice sector, in line with citizens’ expectations and the requirements for EU accession.
She also confirmed Moldova’s readiness to actively contribute during its Presidency to the advancement of democracy, the rule of law, and European unity.
