Prime Minister: Every citizen, every public institution, or private company plays an important role in building a safe digital space

Digitalization is increasingly playing a crucial role in our daily lives, and along with this progress, we are becoming more exposed to hybrid risks. Therefore, every citizen, every public institution, or private company plays an important role in building a safe digital space. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made statements to this effect at the Moldova Cybersecurity Forum 2025, held in Chisinau today.

At the event, the PM presented the concrete steps the government had taken in recent years to strengthen the country’s digital security.

The prime minister noted that, the National Innovation Institute in Cybersecurity “Cybercor” had been launched at the Technical University of Moldova (UTM) last year, where all conditions are created for educating and training a new generation of cybersecurity specialists.

At the same time, according to the PM, through the Cybersecurity Agency, a culture of cybersecurity based on education and cooperation is being built, involving essential sectors for the development and enforcement of cybersecurity protection standards.

“In addition, we are part of a regional and global digital security network, which helps us enforce a string of best practices to protect our online activities,” concluded Dorin Recean.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor said that cybersecurity was the foundation upon which a digital state is built.

“Digitalization is more than a priority. It is a promise that we can build a modern, safe, and people-oriented state. (…) Of course, digitalization brings huge opportunities, but also real risks. A single cyberattack can halt companies. It can affect people’s trust in the state. It can weaken democracy. Just two years ago, Moldova did not have a law for cybersecurity, a dedicated institution, or a coordinated response system. Today, we have the Cybersecurity Agency, and through Cybercor, we are investing in people, in training a new generation of experts who will protect the country’s digital infrastructure,” stated Doina Nistor.

The Moldova Cybersecurity Forum is taking place in Chisinau today – one of the most important events dedicated to cybersecurity in Moldova. The agenda of the forum, hosted by CYBERCOR, includes discussions on current challenges in the digital space and how the country’s cyber resilience can be strengthened.

According to statistics data, at present, over 65 per cent of public services for businesses and 54 per cent of those for citizens is already online. Authorities aim for all public services to be digital by 2030 – accessible from anywhere, anytime, without queues, without unnecessary bureaucracy.
