Today, Maia Sandu took the oath of office as the President of the Republic of Moldova. She said: “You have given me the confidence to continue a journey we started together 4 years ago. I receive this new mandate first of all with humility, but also with determination”, informs TRIBUNA
“Four years ago, we promised good times. It was a sincere promise. But the times turned out to be difficult, restrictive. Moldova found itself in the middle of regional and global crises. After the pandemic came the price hike, the energy crisis, the blackmail with gas, now – the blackmail with darkness. But all these crises pale in comparison to the brutal war on our border. A war that drove millions from their homes, affected the economy, and marked us as a people – we witnessed tragedies and atrocities that we did not think possible in our time. In these strange circumstances, we stood upright, we remained united, and we marched resolutely forward. We managed to keep the peace and defend our democracy in the face of external threats.
I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your patriotism, courage and unity, for humanity and generosity. We can be proud that, despite the difficulties, we managed to be on the good side of history!” said the official.
Maia Sandu also stated that her message today is an optimistic one. “Moldova is not only a small country with a big heart, but also an inspiration for others in uncertain times. Moldova is in the wind, but it does not fly like a leaf, but resists with determination, waiting for the plague to pass. Today, however, I don’t want to talk to you about waiting, because your patience is already tested”, added the head of state.
The President also said: “As President, count on me. I will help you, I will support you, I will guide you, with humility and good faith, according to my power and God’s will. But you are the masters of your destiny and you are the present and the future of the country. People of the country, be better than me, like our political class, be better than yourselves in former years. Moldova grows with Ambition, with our ambition to stop waiting, not to be scared, to refuse to be disappointed and discouraged. The ambition to fight, no matter what the state does, the crises, the problems, the ambition to succeed for you and your families.
Let’s succeed together, let’s think daily what we can do more or better, who we admire, who we learn from and who we can team up with. I worked with dedication in the first term and I will continue with even more will and energy. After 4 years, I can humbly say that, together, we have done something that has never been done in 30 years of independence. Moldova is more respected than ever, the world looks at us with love and interest, and supports us in our dream. The rest is up to us. We have started to free ourselves from energy dependence, even if the prices are still high, no one can keep us under their boot. We managed to open wide the door to the European Union, which is not a little like a country plan and project. There is still a lot to do, but the road is right. I urge you to move forward with confidence. Don’t forget what Our Moldova means: Heritage, Optimism, Struggle, Development, Organization, Will and Ambition!”.
