Ulianovschi: Maia Sandu has positioned herself well in the West, but her photos with foreign officials can’t be served to children on their dinner plates

Diplomat Tudor Ulianovschi, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, asserts that it’s insufficient to merely maintain good relations with the West if the current government fails to leverage these relationships for economic growth and improved living conditions for its citizens.

Invited to the “Fourth Power” broadcast on N4, Ulianovschi stated, “Mrs. Maia Sandu is well regarded in the West and is quite open, but you can’t serve photos of her with high-ranking foreign dignitaries to children on their dinner plates at home.”

The aforementioned source criticizes the current administration for its inability to prioritize the interests of the Republic of Moldova when negotiating with the European Union. The former Minister also expressed skepticism about the Government’s capacity to initiate and conduct professional negotiations with the EU.
He added, “It’s a highly complex process, and the negotiations will be extremely challenging. We’ll need to engage in discussions with each country that has a stake in a particular issue, as all EU members have their own interests and quotas to defend.”
During the same broadcast, Ulianovschi revealed that aside from achieving EU candidate status for Moldova – which happened due to geopolitical conjuncture – the PAS administration has been setting negative records for years and concealing its governance failures behind the war in the neighboring country.

The former Minister expressed his disappointment with the current state of affairs in Moldova, which motivated him to run for the presidency in the upcoming autumn elections.

It’s worth noting that Tudor Ulianovschi, during his tenure as Foreign Minister in 2018, managed to persuade the members of the UN General Assembly to adopt, with 64 votes “for” and 15 “against”, the resolution of the Republic of Moldova on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Transnistrian region. In 2020, he was one of the eight candidates for the position of Director General of the World Trade Organization. Tudor Ulianovschi also serves on the Board of Directors of the American Renewable Energy Association, the Canadian Renewable Energy Association, and the American Business Association with Central and Eastern European States.
