A mission of experts from the European Commission is present these days in the Republic of Moldova to assess the needs for immediate intervention, to strengthen the action capabilities of the internal affairs system for crisis situations.
The mission is due to the awareness-raising and internal affairs diplomacy actions, at the international level, by Minister Ana Revenco and her team from the MIA, in Brussels, within the European Commission and the European Parliament.
This represents a success for the MIA, which, in addition to the funds negotiated with the EU, will also receive a rapid intervention fund for immediate needs, intended for crisis situations.
Thus, the EU understood the efforts of internal affairs to defend the European borders and to successfully maintain resilience against hybrid threats and the risks generated by the Russian Federation in the war with Ukraine, which endanger the entire European space.
The intervention mission of the European Commission is an expression of the materialization of the extended security policies and initiatives, generated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, the European Commissioner Ylva Johansonn and the team coordinated by Peter Wagner, Head of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments of the European Commission.
In this working register, Minister Revenco presented to the members of the evaluation mission the 3 major needs to increase the capacity of action of the internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova, as a factor of stability and security in the region, through:
– Providing support for the development of the intervention capacity of the EU Security HUB in Chisinau;
– Developing a Strategic Intelligence Center;
– Accelerating the implementation of the Internal Affairs Development Strategy in accordance with the European security policies and the fulfillment of the community acquis.
The delegation of experts from the EU institutions will travel to several regions of the country, so that they can observe the reality on the ground, including in the border area, to identify, together with the specialists of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova, the priorities of financial intervention necessary for the internal affairs, for the rapid response in the face of threats.
