The hearings in the Parliament have shown that maintaining the immunity of his members in its existing form is an outdated and unnecessary “relic” of the past. The statement was made by lawyer Ion Paduraru, informs TRIBUNA.
The justice expert said that voting in such cases is a political one anyway, so it must be excluded.
At the same time, he said that it is paradoxical that Members enjoy immunity and the Prime Minister (PM) – no. ‘A Prime Minister may be detained or arrested in the ordinary procedure. But a possible arrest of PM has a huge political impact — leading to the fall of the government. For comparison, the arrest of several deputies can only lead, if necessary, to the “disappearance” of a parliamentary majority”, Paduraru stressed.
