Moldovan PM meets with deputy premier of Russia

Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak discussed subjects on the Moldovan-Russian bilateral agenda today. The officials stressed the need to re-launch the Moldovan-Russian inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation, including for removing the customs tariffs for 14 categories of goods, introduced in 2014 and settle the problem of transports, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

The sides also emphasized willingness to restart the constructive political dialogue, based on mutual respect for the national interests. Maia Sandu underlined that there were no incompatibilities between the EU-Moldova Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area and the free trade zone within the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The prime minister said that the Moldovan cabinet would promote a predictable foreign policy, based on the goal of European integration and implementation of the Association Agreement with EU, at the same time, developing mutually advantageous relations with Russia. PM Maia Sandu also said that the priority of Moldova’s government at present was the country’s democratization and ensuring the functionality of the state’s institutions in the citizens’ interests.

In the context of the discussions on the Transnistrian region, Prime Minister Maia Sandu drew the interlocutors’ attention to the need to cease the illegal schemes of commerce, which harm all neighbouring states, as well as to the necessity to ensure transparency and predictability in the region’s supply with gas.
