In an interview for TRIBUNA portal, the independent deputy Viorel Melnic was asked: “Now that the elections have passed, and you have been running in a uninominal constituency, what impressions have you made about this campaign? How difficult was for you to campaign in the Transnistrian region?
“I have to start by saying that I had a unique but also unusual experience. In the Transnistrian region, it is forbidden to make an electoral campaign for the people who are candidates for the Moldovan Parliament. It follows that it is impossible to make a classical electoral campaign in the Transnistrian region. So without flyers, billboards or media advertising. The only solution – the meetings with the citizens, with the working groups etc. “, the deputy added.
At the same time, being asked what made him engage in politics, but also why he chose to run in a single constituency in the Transnistrian region, Viorel Melnic mentioned that politics for him “is not a new element of everyday life”.
“In the last years, I have taken a break, motivated by business challenges, which remain a particularly interesting experience in my life, after a long hard work in the authorities of the state. I have chosen the uninominal constituency in the Transnistrian region for two reasons. The first reason is that the given region is well-known to me from the perspective of my previous work in customs. The second reason is that, since 2014, I am active in the field of services, and as beneficiaries are the majority of the economic agents from the Transnistrian region, temporarily registered in the Republic of Moldova. Currently, we have over 100 contracts with the economic agents in the Transnistrian region, “the deputy concluded.
