The announcement of PSRM: We don’t want to provoke early elections; we invite the leaders of the Bloc NOW to a discussion

Considering that the Constitutional Court has confirmed the legality of the parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019 and has validated the mandates of the newly elected deputies, the Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) invites the leaders of the Bloc NOW tomorrow at 15.00 at the PSRM headquarters for a preliminary discussion what could shape a possible political collaboration.

As TRIBUNA informs, in a press conference, the ideological secretary of PSRM, Ion Ceban, read a statement in which PSRM mentioned that this electoral campaign was one of the most difficult and tense in the history of the Republic of Moldova.

“On behalf of the Party of Socialists, but also of the candidates elected in the uninominal constituencies of the party, we would like to thank our over 440 thousand voters for their confidence. In spite of all attacks, the use of dirty political techniques, misinformation and political manipulation, the Party of Socialists obtained the best electoral score and won 35 mandate out of 101. This electoral success is a great responsibility for the party and each member of the PSRM team. The international practices specify that the parties defeating the parliamentary elections initiate discussions on the formation of the parliamentary majority and the Government. We believe that now is the time when we can start these preliminary discussions on possible parliamentary cooperation.PSRM, as a party that won the elections on 24 February, is ready to examine the formation of a potential parliamentary majority based on several principles that will underpin any political collaboration: guaranteeing the statehood, the neutrality of the Republic of Moldova and the reintegration of the country; balanced foreign politics by strengthening the strategic partnership with the Russian Federation and mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union, the USA and other states;respecting the rights of every citizen of the Republic of Moldova irrespective of nationality and ethnicity; economic development and the creation of new jobs; social equity and the protection of our traditional values”.

According to the Socialists, these basic principles will start discussions with the deputies in the new Parliament.

“For PSRM, it is not easy to talk with politicians and parties, to whom we have serious objections, many of whom are responsible for the governments since 2009, but first of all, we prioritize the interest of the citizens and their desire to live in a country with good living standards, we respect the vote and look for solutions to have stable institutions as soon as possible and start working for those who have voted us.PSRM does not want to provoke early elections, even if it is ready to face a possible electoral ballot, but we find that there are others who want to provoke them. No government that wants to do something good for people cannot be formed without PSRM, the winner of the elections and the only party that has not participated in disastrous governments in recent years. Any political combinations between NOW and PDM are nothing more than a continuation of disastrous alliances during the time of the Alliance for European Integration after 2009.The next parliamentary majority must be formed around the PSRM, being the most representative party, so we formally start to preliminary discussions on this subject. “

In the context, PSRM mentioned that, following the decision taken at the meeting of the Political Executive of the party, it was decided that, in the first place, they would invite the bloc NOW.

“This decision is based on the fact that PSRM and NOW are the main opposition forces on both political scales in the country, we have worked with the politicians in the parties of this bloc in the past together, we have organized protests against the government and we want to see if we find things which we have in common, which could outline a possible political collaboration. In this respect, we announce that we invite the leaders of the bloc NOW tomorrow, at 15.00, at the PSRM headquarters, for this preliminary discussion. Time and day can be changed depending on the program of both parties. We want to draw the attention of everyone to the fact that we do not start the negotiations on the formation of the parliamentary majority, but at this stage, we are only talking about preliminary discussions in which we want to understand what are the plans of the parties in Parliament. Once that we will have these preliminary discussions and we will understand what they have, we will announce what we are doing and with whom we will negotiate, what we negotiate, in what form. For PSRM, the priority goal is to form a parliamentary majority and a Government to start working for the country, for its citizens, in this respect we will have flexibility in negotiations, we want to participate in the consolidation of the state institutions, but we will not let them in struggles between other parties for their demolition or political use, we believe that the activity of the institutions must be totally depoliticized and independent. These are the criteria that the PSRM provides for the first political discussions and then the possible negotiations for forming the parliamentary majority”.
