The Election Observation Mission of the International Republican Institute (IRI) presented the preliminary report on the observation of the parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019 at a press conference, TRIBUNA informs.
“IRI observers will be in Moldova until 26 March, to witness all post-electoral procedures,” US Ambassador James T. Kolbe said.
The official said that parliamentary elections were a step forward that strengthened people’s confidence in the electoral authorities. “The elections took place peacefully, without major irregularities. We are impressed by how the members of the polling stations were trained and the professional manner in which they behaved yesterday. The elections took place without great deviations from the written procedures, “Kolbe said.
At the same time, IRI urges the authorities of the Republic of Moldova to further strengthen the trust of citizens in public institutions. “Now that the electoral process is almost complete after all the legal procedures will be in place, the hardest thing is – the creation of a government. But until then, the courts have to validate the elections and this is an important step in building the trust of citizens in institutions. In this context, our long-term experts will monitor all court hearings to convince them that everything is democratic, “said Stephen Nix, regional director of IRI for Eurasia.
It is worth mentioning that the final report on the parliamentary elections of 24 February 2019 held in Moldova will be presented at the end of March this year.
