During his visit to the Russian Federation, President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon met with representatives of the Moldovan diaspora in St. Petersburg. The conversation took place in a warm, friendly atmosphere.
“As at the meeting with the diaspora in Moscow, I spoke about the results of the agreements that we reached with Vladimir Putin regarding the amnesty of citizens of the Republic of Moldova who violated the provisions of Art. 26, and Art. 27, of the Federal Law “On the procedure for departure from the territory of the Russian Federation and entry into the territory of the Russian Federation,” Igor Dodon said.
In addition, the President spoke about his initiative to move to a mixed electoral system, which provides deputy mandates for the diaspora.
“In this context, we talked about the need to open more polling stations in the territory of the Russian Federation, where more than half a million citizens of the Republic of Moldova live and work,” the Head of State said.
According to the President, our compatriots welcomed Russia’s decision to abolish import duties on fruits, vegetables, canned goods and wine products from Moldova from January 1, 2019. According to them, Moldovan products are extremely in demand in the Russian market.
In addition, Moldovan citizens living and working in Russia gladly received information about increase in the number of places in the Russian universities for Moldovan students. An agreement on this was reached with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Our compatriots consider such meetings extremely important and necessary, as they have the opportunity to consult directly with the Head of State on the problems they face. We will continue the dialogue and unite the Moldovan diaspora in all corners of the world,” the Moldovan leader assured.
