The parliament today accepted the resignation of Governor of the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) Sergiu Cioclea. A draft decision to this effect was backed with the votes of 54 MPs.

The document provides for ascertaining the position’s vacancy as of 30 November 2018.

At the parliament meeting, the lawmakers of the Party of Communists and Party of Socialists appreciated the contribution of the former governor to the stabilization of the banking system, noting that “at present, there are more risks in the system.” The MPs of the Liberal Democratic Party and Liberal Party demanded that “Sergiu Cioclea unveils an activity report, in which he is to provide information on the bank fraud.” At the same time, the lawmakers of the Democratic Party said that “several weeks ago, Sergio Cioclea presented data on the developments in the banking system in parliament.”

Three days ago, Sergiu Cioclea resigned from the office of BNM governor. Cioclea said that he had taken this decision “for personal reasons.”
