Newly-appointed judge of top court in Moldova

The parliament today took note of the appointment of Mihai Poalelungi as judge of the Constitutional Court. He took the oath before MPs.

According to Speaker Andrian Candu, by the decision of the Superior Council of Magistracy of 6 March 2018, Poalelungi was appointed as judge of the Constitutional Court and is about to begin his work today.

Poalelungi will serve as judge at the Constitutional Court after Tudir Pantiru resigned from the office of head and judge of the high-level forum in late January.

Poalelungi held two terms of office as head of the Supreme Court of Justice, being appointed in February 2016. He previously served as deputy head of CSJ, and in 2008-2012 he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of Moldova.

The Constitutional Court has six judges, for a six-year term. They are appointed by parliament, government and Superior Council of Magistracy.
