Expert: "The Chisinau City Hall is the last institution that Plahotniuc lacks for complete control"

The Chisinau mayor’s office is practically the only institution that Plahotniuc lacks for complete control, and he will receive it in case the referendum does not take place. On November 19, people must go to a referendum and send the General Mayor to resign so that early spring elections can take place. This opinion was expressed by expert Sergei Tofilat.

In his opinion, Chirtoaca turned the mayor’s office into a deeply corrupt structure, which does not care about the needs of the city.

“In 2016, I was part of the initiative group for the referendum organization, along with several civil activists, but then the process was blocked by the judges according to Plahotniuc’s testimony. This is our fundamental right to be able to cancel any mayor if he does not take into account our interests. Dorin Chirtoaca deserves to resign because he turned the city and municipal enterprises into a “limited liability company,” which works for a group of people with power,” says Tofilat.

At the same time, the expert appealed to supporters of the boycott of the referendum with a request to understand the real state of affairs.

“Boycott will not help Chirtoaca return to the mayor’s office, he is a hostage of justice controlled by Plahotniuc. But you will help Plahotniuc to control the mayor’s office through Sylvia Radu, who was illegally appointed the head of the city. Because of fear of being convicted, Chirtoaca is not free even to resign,” Tofilat said.

At the same time, Tofilat noted that in the early local elections, he intended to propose his candidacy for the post of general mayor.
