Referendum on dismissal of Chirtoaca estimated at almost 9m lei

The organization and holding of the local referendum on the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca from the post of mayor general of Chisinau municipality will cost the state 8.910,64 million lei. The Central Election Commission (CEC) on September 26 approved the expenditure estimate for organizing and holding the plebiscite, IPN reports.

According to the CEC, the adopted decision will be submitted to the Government and Parliament so that these identify the necessary financial resources.

In the same meeting, the Commission accredited the first national observers to monitor the new local mayoral elections scheduled for November 19, 2017.

Two weeks ago, the Chisinau Municipal Council set the date of the local referendum on the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca. The inhabitants of Chisinau and the suburban settlements are expected to vote in the referendum on November 19. The decision was taken by the votes of 26 councilors of the 51.

Dorin Chirtoaca is the first deputy chairman of the Liberal Party. He is investigated for influence peddling and acts of corruption. He pleads not guilty.
