About 45,000 people voted during first hour of opening of polls

Almost 45,000 voters cast their ballots in the presidential runoff during the first hour of the opening of polling places, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has said, quoted by IPN.

In a press briefing, CEC president Alina Russu said all the 1,981 polling places opened without incidents. The first polls abroad started work in Japan and China. The others will open according to the local hour.

More than 51% of the voters who marked their ballots were men. As in the first round of voting, most of the electors were aged between 56 and 70 – almost 34%. Those aged between 18 and 25 represented almost 9%, while the voters aged 70 and over – nearly 7%.

Polls close at 9pm.
