Independent candidate votes "for Moldova's future"

Independent candidate for president position Silvia Radu today voted for election of president. The electoral contender came to the polling station accompanied by family and noted she voted “for Moldova’s future”.

“It is a crucial situation in the history of our country and we really need a president of people, but not of a party or an interest group, therefore I want people to elect a president who is really represented,” Radu said.

“I expect that after this election Moldova should be headed by an upright person who has a clear vision on future of our country,” Radu said.

Direct presidential elections take place in Moldova today. About 298,000 voters (10.53 per cent) were present at the ballot boxes till 10:00.

Nine candidates remained in the electoral race: Mihai Ghimpu – Liberal Party, Iurie Leanca – European People’s Party of Moldova, Dumitru Ciubasenco – Our Party, Maia Sandu – Action and Solidarity Party, the Dignity and Truth Platform Party, the Liberal Democratic Party, Igor Dodon – Party of Socialists, Silvia Radu – independent candidate, Maia Laguta – independent candidate, Ana Gutu – Right Party and Valeriu Ghiletchi – an independent candidate.

If none of them gather at least half of the votes, the runoff will take place in two weeks, when the citizens will choose between the two electoral contenders who will pick the highest number of votes in the first round.
