Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu is leading the delegation of the Republic of Moldova on a visit to Luxembourg, where the second Moldova–European Union Intergovernmental Conference will take place today. The event will mark the opening of accession negotiations on Cluster 1 – “Fundamentals”, which forms the foundation of the entire process of preparing the country for European integration.
The Intergovernmental Conference will bring together representatives of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, and the Government of Moldova. During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov will present Moldova’s negotiating position. At the conclusion of the conference, Prime Minister Munteanu will hold a joint press conference with representatives of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and the European Commission.
The visit agenda also includes a meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden, as well as talks with Karl Nehammer, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank. The discussions will focus on opportunities to support strategic development projects in Moldova.
The opening of negotiations on the first cluster confirms the advancement of Moldova’s European path into a new stage and reflects the commitment of the authorities in Chișinău to strengthening the rule of law, advancing judicial reform, ensuring good governance, and aligning the country with European standards.
The first Intergovernmental Conference on Moldova’s accession to the European Union was held in Luxembourg on June 25, 2024, marking the official launch of accession negotiations.
