The Government has approved a decision confirming Ion Lupan as Head of the Secretariat of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister. His new mandate includes coordinating the Secretariat’s activity, mobilizing the necessary sectoral expertise, and ensuring continuity of the platform’s work processes. The appointment preceded the plenary meeting of the Economic Council on 16 January 2026, during which the current economic situation, the challenges faced by entrepreneurs, and the Council’s priorities for 2026 were reviewed, TRIBUNA reports.
At the same meeting, the Vice President of the Economic Council, Eugen Osmochescu, announced the intention to strengthen public–private dialogue, including by transforming the Economic Council into a continuous public–private cooperation structure with an even more ambitious agenda aligned with EU integration processes, updated development priorities, and a rigorous results‑tracking mechanism.
The Council will continue to facilitate the identification and removal of regulatory barriers affecting productivity through simplification, reduced administrative burden, and digitalization.
Created in 2011, the Economic Council’s mission is to facilitate dialogue between the business community, donors, and policymakers, contributing to a transparent and investment‑friendly business environment. The platform currently brings together 148 members from various sectors.
