Former Prime Minister Vlad Filat, commenting on information circulating in the public space regarding a ruling issued by a court in France, stated that the respective decision is not final.
“It has been challenged on appeal, and until all legal remedies are exhausted, it cannot produce final legal effects. Under these circumstances, the case cannot be transmitted to the Republic of Moldova for recognition or enforcement as long as judicial proceedings in France are ongoing,” he said.
Secondly, the politician emphasized that “the presumption of innocence remains applicable. Any presentation of this decision as a final verdict or any irreversible conclusions are premature and contrary to the principles of the rule of law.”
“I would also like to note that the reasoning of the decision has not yet been issued. After a full analysis of the decision, I will return with a detailed, well-argued and responsible comment.
Until then, I make a clear statement: as I have always done, I am present, I do not evade and I do not avoid any procedure. I exercise my legal rights openly and transparently.
I call on media representatives and public actors to demonstrate caution and professionalism when interpreting judicial procedures that are still ongoing.
Respect for the law, the presumption of innocence and verified facts remains essential for proper public information.
Blessed holidays to everyone!” Vlad Filat stated.
