The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova joined the national campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova joined the national campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”. On Tuesday, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Parliament building was illuminated in orange — a color used internationally as a symbol of the fight against violence against women, TRIBUNA reports.

This year, the campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” is held under the theme “Moldova without Violence” with the slogan #NOEXCUSE for digital violence. Its aim is to promote a culture of respect both online and offline, encouraging behaviors based on dignity, responsibility, and empathy. Statistics show that 85% of women worldwide have been victims of this form of abuse. The campaign was launched today through a national manifesto in Chișinău, Cahul, and Bălți, with people from across the country participating in the events.

Recently, Moldova’s legislation was supplemented with additional measures to protect women from all forms of violence and harassment, including those manifested through digital means. Starting February 1, 2026, punishment for online violence will include fines of up to 50,000 lei, community service hours, or even up to two years of imprisonment.

The campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence” runs from November 25 to December 10, 2025.
