Premier Recean and Italian Ambassador discuss bilateral relations

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has met Italian Ambassador to Moldova Giuseppe Maria Perricone. The discussions focused on strengthening the bilateral relations and the ongoing support provided by Italy to Moldova in the process of joining the European Union.

The officials emphasized the importance of cooperation in such essential areas as energy security and social protection. It should be noted that, as of September 1, 2025, the bilateral social protection agreement has come into effect, guaranteeing Moldovans settled in Italy the right to a pension for their years worked, whether they choose to remain in this country or return home. At the same time, on November 8, 2025, the agreement on the conversion of driving licenses will come into effect, allowing for the recognition and exchange of all Moldovan driving licenses, eliminating the difficulties faced by citizens until now.

In recent years, Italy has provided Moldova with financial support worth about 90 million euros, directed towards the Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund, the setting of tens of thousands of smart meters and support for low-income households. Also, Italy has allocated significant resources for digitalizing public services, supporting the healthcare system and the agricultural sector.

About 300 000 Moldovans live in Italy.
